Mathematics for Physicists 2 (IPSP)

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the lecture course will take place entirely virtually at least until June. I will offer the following digital resources:

  • A Moodle course for the lecture, in which you will find all announcements and all material like lecture notes and exercise sheets. All further information will not be published on this website, but on Moodle, so it is very important to sign up if you want to participate.
  • Video recordings of the entire lecture published week by week on my YouTube channel. (A link to the playlist will follow shortly.)
  • Weekly virtual exercise classes, details are to follow soon.
  • A virtual office hour via BigBlueButton. A time will be determined later.

  • Linear algebra of finite-dimensional vector spaces
  • Higher-dimensional calculus
  • Basic knowledge on ordinary differential equations

The part on linear algebra will be a direct continuation of my Mathematics 1 lecture from the previous semester, more precisely of sections 6.1-6.3. The lecture notes of that course are available here or on Moodle.

Additional literature

The lecture will not follow a particular textbook, but you will find the contents of the lecture in many undergraduate textbooks on Analysis or Linear Algebra, resp. Some examples are given in the following list.

If you want to practice your mathematical German, the following textbooks are recommended. Books marked with an asterisk (*) can be downloaded for free via a VPN connection with the University of Leipzig, available for every student.
