Course - Wintersemester 2020/21

Advanced Theory of Dynamical Systems

(2-st. Vorlesung und Seminar)

Please note: Due to the current Corona situation this course will be at least partially carried out in cyberspace, using the university's Moodle-Platform,
see course Advanced Theory of Dynamical Systems.

This course is also part of the module 10-MAT-MPDS2 in the International Master of Science Program "Mathematical Physics". Hence, the course language is English.

Unfortunately, there has been an administrative mistake in the list of courses for this Wintersemester: Both, in AlmaWeb and on the Webpages of the Mathemastics Institute, the module number 10-MAT-MPDS1, Dynamical Systems, has been listed. This is the module and course from last summer semester. We are about to correct this wrong listing.

There is the Seminar "Advanced Theory of Dynamical Systems" adjoint to the lecture course. The seminar is an addition to the lecture course. The participation in the lectures is required for the seminar, but the lectures can be attended without participation in the seminar.

Modus Docendi for the Course: It is intended to offer the course simultanously in presence as in a digital format with a live stream. The course will be given in suitable rooms on the blackboard while being recorded on video and streamed live. The actual number of possible participants in physical presence will depend on the available room and the current Corona concept of hygiene. All details will be given via the Moodle Platform.
Preconditions for this hybrid format are the physical participation of at least 1-2 students who are willing to act as Course Assistants. The course assistants should participate actively in the lecture course as to raise questions if things appear unclear or mistakes might be being made by the lecturer. This will help to avoid having uncorrected mistakes within the recorded material. Moreover, the course assistants should be willing to use their smartphones or laptops with suitable chat apps so that they can accept questions from online-participants and pass them on live during the lecture.

Begin of Lectures: 27.10.20
Begin of the Seminar:      TBA
Both on Moodle!

Potential Participants:

Prerequisites: This course continues the course "Dynamical Systems" from the last summer semester. However, only the basics from that course (1st and 2nd week) are relevant, refer to the script from the Moodle course. Essentially, this course can be taken without previous participation in "Dynamical Systems" from SS20.

Content: The theory of Dynamical Systems is a very broad area of mathematics so that only certain aspects can be covered in one semester's course. This course will have its focus on the areas of Hyperbolic and Hamiltonian Dynamical Systems. Moreover it will deal more with continuous D.S. and flows than with discrete systems.
