Abstract:
This introductory short course presents aspects of the
stability theory of discontinuity fronts in systems of
conservation laws, notably of its applications to the
Euler equations for one-phase fluids (classical shock
waves), the equations of magnetohydrodynamics (intermediate
shock waves), and the Euler equations of two-phase fluids
(moving phase boundaries). The results presented are due
to A. Majda, G. Metivier, S. Benzoni-Gavage, and others
(including the speaker)
